MM to PX Converter: Convert Millimeters to Pixels (and Back)

Turn millimeters into pixels, or pixels into millimeters, at any DPI. Everything runs in your browser — no uploads, no sign-up, no limits.

    Quick answer

1 mm = 3.7795 px at 96 DPI (screens and CSS) and 11.811 px at 300 DPI (print).

The formula is px = mm × DPI ÷ 25.4

    Step by step

How to convert mm to px

Five moves and you're done. The whole process takes a few seconds for a single value, or a few more for a whole list.

    1. 1

      Choose a direction

Pick MM → PX or PX → MM at the top of the studio.

    2. 2

      Enter your value

Type any millimeter or pixel number. The result updates as you type.

    3. 3

      Pick a DPI

Use 96 for screens and CSS, 300 for print, or type a custom value.

    4. 4

      Choose rounding

Full precision, 4 decimals, 2 decimals, or whole numbers — depending on what your target needs.

    5. 5

      Copy or batch

Grab the result with one click. Need many values? Paste them into the batch box, separated by lines or commas, or upload a CSV.

    The math

    The formula

There are 25.4 millimeters in one inch, and DPI tells you how many pixels fit in each inch. That single constant links the two systems.

Millimeters to pixels: px = mm × DPI ÷ 25.4
Pixels to millimeters: mm = px × 25.4 ÷ DPI

    01 Worked examples

    Example 1  ·  10 mm at 96 DPI  =  10 × 96 ÷ 25.4 = 37.8 px
    Example 2  ·  20 mm at 300 DPI  =  20 × 300 ÷ 25.4 = 236.2 px
    Example 3  ·  210 mm (A4 width) at 300 DPI  =  210 × 300 ÷ 25.4 = 2480 px
    Example 4  ·  200 px at 96 DPI  =  200 × 25.4 ÷ 96 = 52.9 mm
    Choosing a value

    Which DPI should you use?

A pixel has no fixed physical size. The same pixels cover a different number of millimeters depending on DPI, so choose the DPI that matches where the image will be used.

mm and px in CSS and JavaScript

CSS already has a physical mm unit, so you can write width: 10mm directly. Browsers define 1 mm as about 3.78 CSS pixels — but a screen may not display it at true real-world size, because screens differ in pixel density.

    • CSS
For print stylesheets the mm unit works well and maps reliably to physical output.
    • WEB
For on-screen layouts stick with px, rem or percentages. Physical units on screens are not dependable.

On-screen size depends on your display's pixel density, so the bars above may not match a real ruler exactly. In a print stylesheet or PDF export, they will.

    console.log(pxToMm(200, 96)); // 52.916666666666664
Tip: these helpers assume a DPI value. If you don't pass one, 96 is used — the CSS default. For print output, always pass 300 explicitly.
    Avoid these

    Common mistakes to avoid

Five issues account for almost every wrong answer people get from an mm-to-px conversion.

    Assuming one DPI everywhere

Confirm the DPI your design tool or printer expects before converting. 72 and 96 give very different answers.

    Rounding too early

Convert first, then round once at the end. Rounding intermediate steps throws the answer off by several pixels.

    Confusing mm and cm

10 mm is 1 cm. A size entered in the wrong unit is ten times off.

    Enlarging low-resolution images

If you need 2480 px but only have 800, the print will look soft. Start from the largest original you have.

    Forgetting bleed

Many printers ask for 3 mm of bleed on each edge. At 300 DPI that is about 35 px. Check your printer's guide.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about millimeters, pixels, DPI and print quality.

How many pixels is 1 mm?
About 3.78 px at 96 DPI and 11.81 px at 300 DPI.
How do I convert mm to px at 300 DPI?
    Multiply the millimeters by 11.811. For example, 20 mm × 11.811 = 236 px.
How many pixels is 10 mm?
About 38 px at 96 DPI, 59 px at 150 DPI and 118 px at 300 DPI.
    What is A4 in pixels?
    2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI, or 794 × 1123 px at 96 DPI.
How do I convert px to mm?
Multiply pixels by 25.4 and divide by the DPI. For example, 200 px at 96 DPI is 52.9 mm.
Is 1 mm equal to 1 px?
No. The relationship depends on DPI. At 96 DPI, 1 mm is about 3.78 px.
What DPI should I use for web design?
Use 96, which matches the CSS pixel definition.
Why do different converters give different answers?
They are usually assuming different DPI values, such as 72 or 96. Use the same DPI the destination expects.
Can I convert a whole list of values at once?
Yes. Paste values into the batch panel — one per line or comma-separated — then click Convert all. You can also upload a CSV and download the results as a new CSV.
Does converting mm to px change my image?
No. It is only a calculation. Your image file is not modified unless you actually resize the pixel grid in an editor.

    Key takeaways

    • Millimeters and pixels are linked by DPI — you always need all three to convert.
    • Use px = mm × DPI ÷ 25.4 and mm = px × 25.4 ÷ DPI.
    • 96 DPI for screens and CSS, 300 DPI for print, 150 DPI for large format.
    • Round the final result only, never the intermediate steps.
    • Always check the DPI your printer or tool expects before you convert.
